A great last day filled with wonderfull memories and adventures. Today we are packing and thanking God for a blessed time in East Africa and all the children he has reached. Greatfull beyond measure for all the prayers and support from friends and family. Merry Christmas eve, cant' wait to get home to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a wonderfull 2010. Open Air

Reaching the People of Tanzania with the wordless book

Days 2 and 3

We have been busy buys busy!! We are doing clubs and they are going excelent. We have reached 793 kids total and 458 have been saved. God is good!! We are going on day 4 and need prayer that we will be able to keep the energy up, even with the anticipation of the end coming. We are all very tired but still excited about doing God's work. Please pray for us and our teens as we approach the end of our CYIA. Our teens need prayer especially, they do things a little different here and once they go home there is a good chance that they will be teaching the clubs by thereselves. So they need prayer that God will help provide them with a team of at least 2, and that if they have to teach by themselves that they will be able to be just as effective as a team of 3. We miss you all so much and can't wait to come home and see you. Also a special prayer request for Tim Heaton, as he is getting ready to go into major surgery today. Please keep him in your prayers, he is an assistant director in Eugene. It's all about God and it's all about the children, Matthew 18:14

Hey all,

Sorry it's taken us so long to write. We are in Tanzania now and haven't had internet access.
Well the end of our time in Kenya was truly amazing. The celebration was so beautiful and it went EXCELLENT! There were students from 1999 when Rod and Betty came originnaly, they gave testimonies and it was s great to hear how CYIA had effected their lives. Mr. Kavuli gave a wonderfull talk on the dreams of CEF Kenya and where he wanted to see it grow. Rod gave the message and you could see that what he said was truly speaking to everyone in the crowd. The end of the celebration was by far the most entertaining. Betty got to cut the cake and then feed it to Rod, about a handfull of other people. It was so fun!! Then there was cake and lots and lots of yummy food. hahaha Yes in Africa, we eat our dessert first! SO GOOD! Sunday was our last day with the CYIA. Kendra and Josh helped lead worship and Rod spoke of being a light unto the world. It was such a great message. You could see the students soaking in everything he said with their eyes. Rod, Betty and Nancy left after church with Marth and Kathy to go to a huge Christmas bazzare, Josh and I stayed behind and went on the trial run to the clubs with two of the teams. At around 6 a cab came for Josh and I and we had to say our farewells. We stayed at Kathy and Martha's that night and left the next morning (monday) for Tanzania. Our trip to Tanzania was AWESOME! We rode on a bus with all of our luggage on the top. It was like we were on a rollercoaster! Bumpin and bouncin all over the place, we had so much fun. Once we crossed the boarder it looked like we were in the setting of the Lion King. It was so beautiful, it took your breath away. We saw Zebras on the side of the road just walkin around and there were lots of Masai with their cattle and their huts. It was amazing. Now it is Thursday and the teens are on day 2 of classes. There are 40 students total and 20 staff. And so far so good. The studenst are understanding our english very well which is a bonus! On Saturday they will be put into their teams and Sunday they will go for a trial run, so monday they can start teaching 5-day clubs! We are missing you all so much but are enjoying our time in Africa. Truly where we are it's like the garden of Eden, so beautiful, and we can see Mt. Killimanjaro from the sidewalk, have i mentioned it's beautiful?
Keep us in your prayers.

Kenya Staff Training

Hello all,

Well we just got done with our Kenya staff training. We had such an amazing time. There were several classes that we sat through teaching us how to communicate and help the teens that are coming in, and also classes to help us grow as a team. We fellowshiped together and now the teens are coming in from all over Kenya and some from Sudan! We are so excited for the weekend that we have with the teens and the celebration time we have with them on saturday. Rod, Betty, and Nancy taught classes during our staff training time and were wonderful. The people here are so amazing and we thank God every day that he has given each of us the opportunity to be here together to experience them.
Let's see what else to say, oh my goodness, the food. It's so good!! They feed us very well here. And it's all delicious. Oh man you need to try some ugalli, and eat it with your fingers! It makes it taste that much better! Especially with a hint of hand sanitizer. =] The Michigan team is here and we have been blessed to get to work with them as well.
Saturday is the next big day on our list. It is the ten year anniversary of CYIA here in Kenya. There is going to be a time where teens will come and share their testomony, there are people coming that were here in the beginning helping Rod and Betty back in 1999 when it all started. It's going to be a big and wonderful day so we just ask that you pray for that day, that everything will go as planned and that all of Martha's hard work will not be lost.
Thank you so much for the prayers that you have been sending up to God we truly appreciate and will continue to need them.

The quote of the day is..."God does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called."

Psalm 150:6
"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!"

loving and missing you all

HERE!!!

Hey all,

Okay we are finally here! The plane ride to Amsterdam was...long, but very good. We had a short layover there then we boarded a 747, which was HUGE and extremely full. Josh and I slept 6.5 of the 8 hour flight, so it was great. Today is day 1, sunday. We had a great breakfast with our team, Rod, Betty, Nancy, Josh, Martha, Robert and myself. Then we were off to church! Rod and Betty went to church with Peter, while Josh Nancy and myself went with Martha. We took the Matatu. It was so much fun! The Matatu is a van with as many people as you can fit in it. Kind of like a taxi...But better. Church this morning was amazing. We got to dance and sing praises to our god in two differnt languages, it was quite the experience. After that we went to lunch with our team, martha, Kathy, Peter and his wife. We had a great time. On the way home we decided to all go in one car. That was an adventure! Josh sat on Nancy and mines lap with Betty squished up against the window. We had so much fun! Now everyone is napping and preparing themselvs for the week ahead of us. The Michigan team is coming in tonight, and tomorrow teacher training begins. There is a good chance that josh and myslef will now be leading the whole 5 day lesson on the wordless book in Tanzania so we will be attending teacher training and studying for that. Saturday is the 10 year celebration and Rod is speaking as well as Betty. Keep them in your prayers and Rod is also giving messages thiss week as well. Nancy is teaching a class this week and will be a team trainer in Tanzania. All is well and we are all so excited and happy to be here. Please keep us in your prayers as we are always thinking of you and missing you here! Love you all,
until next time,
The Africa Team,
Kendra, Josh, Rod, Betty, and Nancy
